Along with the ridiculous “zero dues until your first contract” promise, the Machinists union has delivered a lot of other zeroes to the Delta flight attendants and to their own members:
- Zero – industry leading flight attendant contracts
- Zero – rigs or credits in the IAM Continental contract. In the last non-bankruptcy contract (yes you can go backwards in negotiations), IAM GAVE UP: minimum duty period credit (4:45 at Delta), minimum trip rig (1:00 flight pay for every 3:30 away from base at Delta) and Duty Credit (1:00 of flight pay for every 2:00 on duty at Delta)
- Zero transparency – in three years of campaigning, IAM has refused to disclose who is running the campaign, who the appointed leaders will be in the highly unlikely event that IAM wins, how we would elect our representatives, what IAM salaries are, and so much more.
- Zero accountability – during this campaign, the Machinists have put out communications that have: plagiarized other works and copyrighted material, bashed Delta leaders, attacked Delta flight attendants, contained half-truths, falsehoods and outright lies. The IAM not only condones these dishonest communications and attacks, but they allow them to continue.
- (Almost) Zero flight attendant members. Flight attendants comprise less than 1% of IAM membership. Is it logical to think that the Machinists’ attention is more focused on 1% or the other 99%?
- Zero factual information – IAM can’t even tell us what our monthly dues would be.
- Zero comprehensive comparisons. The Machinists have not put out a single comprehensive comparison of ANY of their flight attendant contracts against the Delta work rules. What are they afraid of? If the IAM is so great at negotiating contracts, then why aren’t they advertising proof of their success? Why aren’t they shouting their successes from the rooftop?
C’mon IAM: Show us the money! Show us the proof that you’re as great as you claim you are!
It’s time to put up or shut up!
