A Sampling from Facebook of that IAM “Voice”

Last week I received a postcard from the IAM with the photo of a Delta A319 and a headline that stated:

“OK. But not OK? A Voice, says corporate, works fine for pilots. But it’s ‘different’ for us.”

While we already have a “Voice,” indeed a direct “Voice” with which we are able to speak openly to management, it’s ironic that the Machinists would choose to stress “Voice,” given the strident, crude and shrill IAM "Voices" screeching across Facebook on a daily basis.

Over the past several days, a number of those IAM “Voices” (including one that was fired and no longer works at Delta) were busy attacking and shredding a flight attendant for daring to celebrate and spend her recent profit sharing check with her family.

Of course, while whining and harping that our profit sharing checks were not good enough, none of those IAM "Voices" bothered to squeal about the Machinists failure to negotiate similar if any profit sharing for the very small number of flight attendants they currently represent.

Wouldn’t you think that any reasonable person would realize that a campaign built by attacking your would-be supporters and possible future constituents isn’t the brightest way to create a movement? Additionally, should the Machinists really be drawing attention to our record profit sharing checks, when they can't even answer the simplest questions about their own organization?

Do you think the “Voices” at ALPA behave this way? Does anyone believe that ALPA would take this sort of scream fest to the company and demand respect in return? Is there some big, public World Class Delta ALPA page, where pilots disparage their company and attack each other? It’s the individual respect and self-restraint that is the difference.

Below is a sample of some of those IAM “Voices.” Many might be the same “Voices” that the Machinists would appoint as interim union representatives, negotiators, officers, etc… should the IAM somehow win a representation election.

While several reasonable and clearly non-IAM “Voices” attempted to calm the drama, to explain that profit sharing is actually good (not bad, but good) for all Delta employees, and to remind everyone that all employees have the right to spend/save their checks however they choose, the Machinist “Voices” were too busy shrieking to notice.

Loud, angry and stupid is no way to run a campaign – do you want these “voices” speaking for you?

NWA union dues dodger Paul Wacker started the cyber maelstrom by copying a photo and falsely claiming that a pilot bought the car. NOTE: the original poster (a flight attendant) had originally stated that she used HER profit sharing to help with a down payment on the car.

But Wacker wasn’t interested in truth, facts or any good news regarding Delta flight attendants. Instead, he chose to post a blatant lie to fire up the IAM agitators, and it worked to great effect. Just look at how many people were eager to pile on in fits of anger and outrage. Just look at the complete lack of restraint and common sense. And look how when a voice of reason appears, it’s all but ignored. If these people are so easily duped by an internet post, the Machinists’ Union must certainly see them and their dues dollars as easy pickings. If they’re so eagerly falling over themselves to be the lead dog in the attack pack, with no facts whatsoever, the IAM must surely be eying them for an officer or poobah position.

(Oh and if you’re wondering about the post Dotty Malinsky went back and deleted, she was referring to “rednecks”).

Jose Arturo Ibarra

Janis Legan I spent my profit sharing on a new well pump motor. I don't begrudge anyone for what they spent their profit sharing on . (mine was supposed to go into my 401k until said pump motor went out ..) BUT to post this pic on the 360 implying (??? IMO) that her (?) (since she is the FA on the 360 site) profit sharing paid for or helped to pay for the hubby's new car is way out of line... IMO.

Janis Legan And I live right next to a chevy dealership. Have walked thru the showroom just a few week ago. The lower end camaro goes for a lot and the higher end souped up camaro goes for $75k. So factor down a few thou and the pilot got a sweet ride. I hope the wife.... (oops... a family fb page so I won't go there.....) ...

Paula Henriques-Jackson It's very tacky and inappropriate to toss around your good fortune in people's faces. Everyone is thanking Delta, like the company gave us this reward. We earned it and were a big part of the reason why the company did so well! It wasn't a hand out on the companies part. Why are people thanking Delta? I salute all the hard working employees!

Nicole Hilaire Kolarik She is a FA, he is not a pilot. She has been saving up for this car and the PS helped give her enough to finally buy the car. She did not say she paid cash or anything else, just that the PS helped her be able to buy the car. She is not rubbing anything in anyone's face, but just saying Thank You to her company for sharing the profits. The company as doesn't have to do that, but they do.

Marilyn D. Bowden Paul - you can't take that photo off 360- they take things off our sites and they're vicious but you'll be in the office on Tues if you don't take it down... Just remove the photo and leave the post... They put it there purposely to rub salt in our wounds... They KNOW that we are using ours for healthcare...

Dotty Malinsky I used part of my small profit sharing checking (which I EARNED) to attend a fundraiser for a fellow flight attendant who is fighting a life threatening illness. I could have afforded to share more if the company had not unilaterally decided to withhold 33 1/3% of what they had originally promised and then replaced with a smaller pay restoration. That's why we need a contract. Our compensation should not be left to company whims. I agree that we can spend any of our money in any way we deem appropriate. We all have different values.
