JUST ZERO IAM TRUTHS
The Machinists Union keeps
harping on “zero dues until a contract is ratified”.
But did they ever tell us
that IAM can force
a contract on the Delta flight attendants? We could attend the IAM
roadshows seven days till Sunday and we will never get the truth and
transparency about this that we deserve.
Here’s how the IAM will make
sure they start collecting dues ASAP (remember over $14 million per year is at
stake for them):

down a contract and that if two-thirds of the Delta flight attendants don’t
ALSO authorize a strike, the CONTRACT PASSES BY DEFAULT.

concessionary contract on them.
Here’s what happened in a
nutshell:
1.
The contract vote
failed (43% in favor and 57% against it).
2.
The strike vote
also failed (only 58% voted to strike, they needed 67% approval)
3.
Because the
strike vote failed the contract automatically passed and members were stuck
with four 1%
raises over a 10-year period. Delta flight attendants have gotten a
4% raise in just one year (plus another 16.5% in profit sharing)!
And remember, this is a
company where IAM was already collecting dues. Do you really think they will
“linger” in contract talks at Delta, when over $14 million a year is at stake
for the IAM? They’ve already “promised” us a fast contract (but they’ve never
“promised” a good contract). This is EXACTLY how they will force it on us.
Think long and hard about
this: In the IAM Constitution, the IAM negotiators can give us any proposal for
a contract that they want and if two thirds of the Delta flight attendants
don’t authorize a strike against Delta, the contract will automatically pass.
Why would anyone want to
bring a union on the property that backs its own members into a corner like this? Other
unions don’t have this clause in their Constitution. Why would anyone seek to
be represented by the IAM under these circumstances?
Do the IAM Delta campaigners
not know about this clause, or do they simply not care? And, no matter what the
answer to that question is, are these really the best people to represent your
interests? Have they shown ANY interest in your best interests, or are they in
some mad grab for union positions and salaries? When will IAM stop lying to us
and when will the IAM Delta staffers stop covering up for them?
