A Portrait in Leadership – Laurie Gandrud, IAM Activist

A Portrait in Leadership – Laurie Gandrud, IAM Activist

It’s always embarrassing and disappointing to watch someone humiliate themselves on the internet – and it must be an especially humbling and awkward experience to so egregiously and ineptly debase yourself like IAM activist and cheerleader Laurie Gandrud did on YouTube recently when she accused Delta Air Lines of running an unsafe operation.

Aside from the outright falsehoods that Laurie spewed in her 84 seconds of fame forever recorded on YouTube video and subsequently blasted to the world, apparently she didn’t realize or comprehend that in her zeal to procure votes for the Machinist’s union that she would manage to insult, question and accuse every employee group – union and non-union – at the company.

While it might sound like I’m being a great big meanie for exposing Laurie’s YouTube star turn, I’m merely pointing out that Laurie and others like her epitomize the potential, future class of Delta IAM leaders/negotiators/officers.

By now many of you have probably noticed that Laurie’s video has been removed from the IAM Delta website as well as YouTube, and that’s not really a surprise, but as I noted above, once on the internet, always on the internet.

Do you want Laurie and others like her representing you? Check out her video.

If Laurie – who to this date has had no problem tearing into and apart her coworkers on any number of internet sites – is tomorrow’s face of Delta IAM, how would she be regarded when negotiating on our behalf if the best she can manage is a litany of falsehoods, crowned with the claim that Delta produces an unsafe and inferior product?

Did it not occur to Laurie that by accusing the company of running an unsafe operation she would be flipping her finger at pilots, mechanics, ground workers and others – not to mention her fellow flight attendants – of ignoring safety standards at the expense of our company and our customers? Is this what Laurie really thinks of her coworkers, and in an even more disturbing note, what took it so long for the Machinists to pull her sniveling testimony?

In what delusional world do Laurie and the other IAM activists cheering on this nonsense live, and when will Laurie publically apologize for her gross insult, and acknowledge that she has no place leading the flight attendant group?

It’s more than likely that the folks starring in the collection of videos on the IAM website would be appointed as interim officers should the Machinists win a potential representation election, and over the next weeks I plan to examine all of these recordings to expose the potential leaders of Delta IAM.

Please share this email with your friends and coworkers.

Sincerely,

Jose Arturo Ibarra
