Answered
While we are
waiting for the IAM to show up for the $14 million per year job interview, I
will begin answering the questions that Delta flight attendants have asked
about the IAM organization, track record and future plans. The Machinists keep
telling us we have to go to a road show to get answers. That is so 1959
Machinist mentality. Hello!?! Yoo-hoo!?!?! Hey, IAM leadership, it’s now 2015.
Where is your internet presence? Where is your indication that you are able to
adapt your communications to a mobile workforce like flight attendants? Where
is your proof of relevance and responsiveness? In case you haven’t noticed, our
job location is dynamic and we aren’t used to driving to some union hall to get
information.
Here is the first
of your questions:
Who are the
Delta IAM interim leaders?
This remains a
mystery. I’ve asked but have received no answers. Many of you have asked also,
and have been promised everything under the sun, but have also received no
answers.
In spite of the
Machinist’s lofty rhetoric about voice, courage, service and a host of other
ideals, no one will step forward and emphatically state that he/she will serve
as an interim IAM officer. Why, oh why won’t anyone step forward and lay claim
to the title of interim leader? Or interim Grand Poo Bah, Vice Grand Poo Bah,
etc…
I searched the
IAM Delta website, and checked their many flyers (these were listed as
“resources,” and filled with promises and innuendo) and could barely find a
name, although they did contain several photos of Dr. Martin Luther King, as
well as photos of the following:
Nelson Mandela, the guy who
stood in front of the tank during the Tiananmen Square protest of 1989,
several unidentified people, a cute and fluffy Golden Retriever, an attractive
model standing in front of some photos of frightening looking airplane
incidents, a high fashion model with lots of makeup and a swirly French
hairdo, a mom with some children, a wet and angry child, a doctor/nurse,
one of those goofy little dogs like the one on the old TV show Frasier, and
18-year SEA based flight attendant Julien Tudor (sorry, yours was the only
Delta flight attendant name I could find. I suggest you have the IAM take your
name and photo off their website if you aren’t actually involved).
Considering that
both King and Mandela have passed away, and the guy who stood in front of the
tank in Tiananmen Square back in 1989 has never been seen again after that
incident, the only flight attendant listed is someone I’ve never heard of (and
quite frankly have no argument with). Despite this, as he seems to be the only
flight attendant whose name is listed anywhere on the IAM campaign website, and
in that case really the only qualified person pictured, maybe he’ll be the
interim President/Grand Poo Bah?
So here’s a stab
in the dark – because clearly they are leaving us in the dark out of shame or
fear – at the Delta IAM interim leadership, Poo Bahs and all. From what I have
read I think this collective will rule from either a Local Lodge, District
Lodge, or maybe a Grand Lodge. I’ve never seen a Grand Lodge before but IAM has
them, and considering the outrageous salaries they pay their Imperial leadership,
I suppose it’s probably something like where the Ewing family lived in Dallas.
