Get it in Writing
The Machinists
union and their representatives are making a lot of wild and crazy promises
with the hope of duping enough Delta Flight Attendants to actually cast a
ballot for them.
In the coming
days and weeks, you’ll be hearing even more fantastic and even emptier rhetoric
from the IAM and their supporters. I encourage you to:
1.
Get it
in writing. Whatever the promise is ask the IAM campaigner to put it in writing
in legally binding language. If they refuse, write down the date, time,
location and the name of the campaigner who made the promise. There should be
accountability if the IAM fails to deliver.
2.
Get
proof of previous achievements. Whether it’s top pay of $75 an hour, or a
contract that allows ALL of us to simultaneously drop to zero hours (as a
recent IAM flyer promised), or pink unicorns and rainbows every Friday, ask the
IAM campaigner to show you – in writing – where the IAM has ever been able to
attain what they are now promising the Delta flight attendants.
3.
Get the
facts. Ask the IAM campaigners to show you a comprehensive comparison of ANY
IAM flight attendant contract and the Delta work rules. Ask them why they
haven’t answered ANY of the relevant questions about their structure, achievements,
monthly dues amounts or who the Delta IAM leaders would be (in the highly
unlikely and highly tragic event that IAM wins the election).
I will continue
to share the facts about IAM’s dismal record in representing flight attendant
groups, introduce you to potential IAM Delta representatives and negotiators
and (since IAM is too bashful to discuss it) piece together an IAM resume.
Please continue to share facts with your coworkers and take steps to hold the
IAM campaigners accountable for their statements and promises.
Please share this
email with your friends and coworkers.
Sincerely,
Jose Arturo Ibarra
