More Unanswered IAM Questions Answered

More Unanswered IAM Questions Answered

It has become apparent that IAM activists have no honest, viable or coherent answers for the important, relevant and legitimate questions so many of you continue to raise about the Machinists’ organization, its inner workings, and the many promises they have made us other than to deflect, ridicule and ignore.

And it is clear that no answers will be coming from IAM activists now or probably ever for that matter, because after three plus years of a campaign marked by platitudes and promises, the best non insult they can muster at this late state is “attend a meeting at a lodge, coming soon to one of these locations …” somewhere, by some airport at any given base or AFP.

Come on folks - obviously they just can’t or won’t answer your questions in a public forum, which leaves me and others no choice but to continue to set the record straight about the Machinist organization, and its activist’s inability to address the most obvious and fundamental building blocks of representation.

Why do we have to attend an IAM roadshow to get answers to our questions?

Clearly, the IAM and their activists are afraid to put answers in black and white – which in any given reality is ACCOUNTABILITY – because once you hear their answers, you’ll be compelled to ask more questions.

For example, if the Machinists won’t name their potential interim flight attendant leaders, you can’t ask about their past union/labor experience, question them about any office or jobs they have held that qualify them to represent, or review any online behaviors they have exhibited towards their fellow crew members during their campaign.

In this digital age, and with the popularity of social media, why can’t the Machinists communicate with us in a more direct, open, convenient forum?

Once a response, promise/guarantee, representation plan, etc… is posted online in a forum, Facebook, etc… that post can be copied, recorded and forever held as evidence to hold a person/organization accountable.

For example, have you noticed the Machinists posting any plans about how they would handle the question of A-Days vs. Reserve? Not pledged and signed in writing anywhere – however, activists have made plenty of promises in person, depending on seniority and base. The fact is, should the Machinists win a representation election, they would have to conduct a contract survey of the membership to determine what the majority would want the IAM to pursue in negotiations. And should the majority of flight attendants demand an end to A-Days and return to pure reserve, then the IAM would be duty bound to pursue that course of action.

If you don’t believe me, believe yourself and your ears – ask hard questions. Demand answers in writing. Record names, responses, times and dates. This is not only your future, but the future of 20,000 plus. Don’t gamble it away without a guarantee in writing.
