IAM Willfully Violates Your Rights

IAM Willfully Violates Your Rights

In what is sure to be a continuing series of desperate acts, the Machinists Union is now urging supporters to violate company policy and federal laws that provide for a hostile-free workplace.

In response to a statement that giving out bag tags and pins, or discussing the union vote on the airplane was against Delta’s advocacy policy, IAM National Campaign Coordinator (and possible future Lodge Assistant Grand Poohbah or something), Angela Brewer urged supporters, “Correct, but if no one is there to see you . . . . . . . (sic) look, as is everything around here GREY (sic) just be cautious about when and where you advocate and be a good little stew. Know your audience well.”

In other words, according to Angela, it’s OK to violate company policy and break the law . . . as long as no one catches you!

And (excessive ellipses and the condescending attitude towards flight attendants aside) here’s the whack-a-doo “logic” behind Angela Brewer’s “advice”: “It’s all a big, grey area so do whatever you want. Break the law. Disregard the rights of fellow crewmembers. It’s OK. We’ll pretend we didn’t understand.”

Actually, the advocacy policy is written in clear, easy to read black and white language. Just like the work rules. Just like the pay scales. Just like the A-day assignment process. Just like the PBS bidding parameters.

But we’re getting a clearer picture, thanks to Angela, of what is driving this IAM movement: people that are too lazy to look up the references, or too daft to understand the language or too unwilling to respect another individual’s rights who just pretend everything is a “grey area”.

That’s their excuse for life and we have to ask: “Is this type of behavior and this type of intrusion and this type of willful daftness worth $12 million a year in our dues money?!? I mean if Angela is so willing to make things up now, what would cause her to be honest in the future? What if she becomes YOUR IAM representative and displays this kind of dishonesty and moral “grey area”? Would you be getting your dues money’s worth from an Angela?

Say NO to the madness.

More than ever, It’s clear that Angela and her Machinists cronies will stop at nothing to steal this election. It’s imperative that you call the NMB at (202) 692-5040 to make sure that IAM hasn’t filed a fraudulent card on your behalf.
