Special Assignment Flight Attendants: Beware!

Special Assignment Flight Attendants: Beware!

AFA is Watching You!

Kim Evasic has been paid tens of thousands of our dues dollars to sit in crew lounges, socialize, spread gossip and attack anyone who doesn’t agree with her point of view. Her duties as a paid AFA campaign staffer apparently include creating division among the members of AFA. In her position, Kim has sent emails containing racist and misogynistic remarks and forwarded other emails that personally attack dues paying AFA members. How’s that for Unity and Respect?

Ironically, even though Kim claims having a contract is “logical” and “good business”, she doesn’t have one for her job with AFA. That’s right, Kim has NO AGREEMENT about hours of service, pay rates, job assignments, seniority, furlough or right to recall for her AFA airport-sitting job. Kim has nothing in black and white that’s written on paper. It’s a classic example of “Do as I say, not as I do”. It seems that actually having a contract isn’t so important to Kim, but getting paid to tell others that THEY need a contract, is.

In an apparent attempt to either cover up or rationalize her hypocrisy, Kim has perpetuated the practice of spying on fellow flight attendants. Here’s an email she recently sent out to AFA staffers and other line flight attendants who are not in any way associated with the union:

Subject: Email from PMDL F/A about why no DL leaves were awarded for Oct.....

Date: September 12, 2010 11:53:07 AM

Hi Everyone,
Out of curiosity I looked up the schedules of the majority of EIG members for Oct and they are all pre-blocked with FTSP (special assignment) for the entire month of OCT. So if you are wondering how our flying could increase to the levels that we could not offer any leaves...it didn't....the EIG needed to be off to man the front for management to get everyone to VOTE and I'll bet they say VOTE NO.
They have their army in place.

Thought you all might to know this.

Like wringing out a wet towel, Kim manages to twist reasoning to wring out any bit of logic from her mind. She comes to the faulty conclusion that it is the special assignment flight attendants who are at fault for the lack of leaves in October. What Kim fails to include in her “calculation” are the following factors: the company announced an increase in October flying from original projections (that’s supposed to be good news, right? Not for Kim); Delta is ramping up to hire over 1,000 flight attendants and that involves many special assignment positions; there are special assignment flight attendants off full time every month to teach CQ and for various other projects. EIG flight attendants are also involved in many other projects.

Kim’s greatest sin, though, is the sin of omission. What she fails to state is that AFA has hundreds of flight attendants off line every month. Flight attendants, like Kim, who get paid to attack and spy on the rest of us and to spread half-truths and outright lies. The difference is that those flight attendants – those AFA campaign staffers – are paid with our dues dollars and then have the gall to sit there straight-faced and tell us they are “volunteers”.

If you are against Delta flight attendants the way that Kim is and if you want to endorse tactics like spying, gossiping and the spreading of half-truths, then vote yes for AFA in the upcoming election.

If you are FOR the Delta flight attendants moving forward, meaning increases in pay, benefits and work rules of over $70 million for the PMNW flight attendants, and a quick integration of the two work groups, then VOTE NO September 29 – November 3.

Sincerely,
Jose Arturo Ibarra
