The largest flight attendant union in the world no longer has a flight attendant at its helm.
Remember AFA selling itself as the “flight attendant union?” After overseeing the most egregious decimation of flight attendant contracts and working conditions in the history of aviation (even AFA is admitting to providing its members the “worst pay in the industry” link HERE: http://www.unitedafa.org/res/pr/details.asp?ReleaseID=352 ), AFA International President Pat Friend has snatched up an early out package offered by United Airlines. Her last day as a United Flight Attendant was July 31, 2008, yet she intends to continue collecting a hefty paycheck as AFA International President – twisting the AFA constitution to her benefit again – and she didn’t even have the decency to tell us in one of her several recent updates of her schedule. Pat may believe that she is above all rules and standards of protocol, but we shouldn’t.
It’s time for Pat to get off the AFA staff payroll and bring in a president who hears us and can represent our will to fight for what we deserve.
It’s time for massive initiatives from AFA and a new president that will clean house – including Pat’s cronies and serve its membership in a way that truly represents us.

We’ve given AFA over two years and we’ve gotten nothing of what they promised and they’re all still collecting their big fat pay from our hard earned dues money.
Months since our contract was decimated: 14
It’s time for each of us to stand up and take back OUR union and unity or get this dues collection agency off our property.
Other Secrets AFA Doesn’t Want You to Know
Also glaringly absent from the “Around Our Union” article, which talks, again, about the Northwest-Delta campaign are the names of the key players in the campaign. Pat lists 8 members of the Campaign Coordinating Committee (Of the 4 Northwest members - Sherry Eubanks, Rebecca Collier, Susan Squires and Rich Stone – the last 3 lost their most recent campaigns for union office), yet fails to tell us that Danny Campbell and Mollie Reiley are in charge of the entire group.
You remember Danny and Mollie…
- They promised us all sorts of good things during the AFA raid, but instead ignored us and cancelled CHAOS when we had a chance to fight back.
- They then stated publicly that they would not seek positions at NWA AFA.
- They accepted appointments to interim terms.
- They then claimed that they would not seek re-election.
- They put together a slate and ran for re-election.
- They lost their campaign and…have been seated in cushy AFA staff positions ever since, and we all know what happened as a result of their handling of the recent Delta campaign. In fact, five of the six Northwest members on the committee lost their most recent campaigns. Will history repeat itself with this group at the wheel?
AFA, the nion - that’s union without “U”
Only time will tell, but one thing is certain; Pat’s lack of honesty and full disclosure, her secret meetings with company officials, the botched negotiations, the abhorrent contracts and the political nepotism in appointing unqualified people to lucrative posts prove once and for all that AFA truly is an Nion.
On second thought, let’s shorten that even more: AFA is a Non. U and I are not considered in this organization.
Visit http://www.fainformation.com to view an accurate, unbiased comparison between our contract and the Delta Policy Manual. While you’re there, take the micro poll and answer this question: “Northwest flight attendants: Are you better or worse off under AFA representation than before they began to represent the Northwest flight attendants?”
Duane Woerth’s Sojern
Pat’s good friend Duane Woerth (remember how she needed him in her meeting with Steenland, but wouldn’t allow the NWA AFA President to attend), former head of ALPA, is one of the founding members of Sojern, the company that cuts deals with airlines to print ads on their boarding passes founded in 2007 (Link HERE for article and note that Delta is the launch customer: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121608829404253341.html?mod=googlenews_wsj ).
Mollie, Danny and the NWA AFA Negotiations Committee (Bruce, Lovie and James) Won’t Sojourn - still on the union payroll
Many of you have written asking for their resignations. You’ve been ignored. Enough said.
Sincerely,
Jose A. Ibarra
