You Can’t Serve Two Masters …

You Can’t Serve Two Masters …

… and the IAM can’t have it both ways – either the Machinists union must put Delta flight attendants’ best interests first, or walk away from this representation nonsense, and do a better job standing for the needs of its Boeing constituents.

At odds is IAM’s promise to protect and preserve the jobs of Delta flight attendants, and the Machinists can’t do this and continue to urge union members to “Tell Congress to Reauthorize the U.S. Export-Import Bank” (http://www.congressweb.com/goiam/90).

That doesn’t work for the Delta flight attendant group, nor does it work for our coworkers and our company. ALPA recognizes this, and stands with Delta and our fellow employees. But what about IAM – who exactly do the Machinists support in this telling issue?

Do the Machinists support the U.S. Export-Import Bank because they apparently believe it’s patriotic to subsidize multibillion-dollar aircraft for foreign airlines over U.S. flag carriers?

You see, it’s really quite simple. The U.S. Export-Import Bank supports foreign companies with U.S. taxpayer subsidies, allowing foreign flag carriers like Emirates to purchase Boeing airplanes at greatly reduced rates. These subsidies, which the IAM supports, put Delta at a competitive disadvantage, costing our company profits, and negatively affecting our bottom line.

Of course, we all want to see Boeing workers do well, and given the IAM’s questionable representation there, they need all the help they can get.

Check out this recent article about the IAM negotiated bonus Boeing workers will receive this year, and compare the numbers to our profit sharing checks:

IAM representation: bad for Boeing, worse for Delta flight attendants.
