Unlike AFA, ALPA Refuses to Throw its Members Under the Bus

A few days ago I sent you an email about the latest example of AFA's epic failure to represent flight attendants' best interests. ALPA at United/Continental was faced with the same staffing situation (overage at United, understaffed at Continental), and moved forward to provide the best possible solution for their members. The difference in behavior between a competent, professional union (ALPA) and a self-serving, corrupt, dues collection agency (AFA) could not be more glaring. Faced with the exact same situation, ALPA saved its members' jobs, at the same time that AFA kicked 1,800 United flight attendants to the curb.

Sincerely,

Jose Arturo Ibarra

United offers furloughed UA pilots positions with CO

Posted July 14, 2011
We will offer approximately 100 to 200 positions to pilots currently on furlough from our UA subsidiary to fly aircraft for our CO subsidiary. The positions will meet the needs currently anticipated for the combined company's operation in 2012. “We are pleased that, through cooperation with the Air Line Pilots Association, we are able to offer the opportunity for these UA pilots to come back to work,” said Flight Operations SVP Fred Abbott. “We will continue negotiation on a single contract for all of our pilots as we work towards our single operating certificate.” As we finalize the recall numbers and schedule, we will contact those pilots on the UA furlough lists. Furloughed UA pilots with questions can contact the Furloughed Pilot Coordinator at (email)
