Where’s Our Contract, Kevin??
“We are communicating more than ever.” Kevin Griffin AFA President on February 25, 2008.
The truth is that although they are NOT communicating more than ever (no MEC newsletter in a year), fewer MEC hotline messages than the previous administration and remarkably weak quotes to the media, AFA and our own MEC continue to communicate lies and half-truths.
At the top of the list was the recent MEC hotline that claimed Delta does not have a 4:15 minimum day. While that is technically correct, the people who are making a living off of our dues money neglected to give us an accurate, complete picture of the Delta Hours of Service, compared to ours. While Delta does not in fact, have 4:15 minimum duty credit, they DO have 4:45 Duty Period Averaging, something AFA has failed to get for us. Not only that, but Delta’s Trip Hour Credit is better than what AFA got for us. Delta flight attendants are guaranteed 1 hour of pay for every 3:30 minutes away from base, while we have to be away from base 3:36 to earn 1 hour of pay. That means that we have to be away from home a FULL HOUR LONGER (on a 2 day trip paid at Trip Hour Credit) than Delta flight attendants to earn the SAME NUMBER OF HOURS. And don’t forget, that the Delta hourly rate is also higher than NWA’s.
At the same time Kevin and AFA are spreading their lies and mongering their fear, they HAVE NEGLECTED TO PROVIDE US WITH A CONTRACT! It’s been almost a year since AFA pushed this contract on us and we STILL don’t have a printed copy. How long does it take Kevin Griffin, James Yung, Lovely Offerle and Bruce Retrum to add an index and a table of contents and send the book to the printer? Over $100,000.00 of your dues money has gone to pay these people since last July and we still don’t have a contract! Worse yet, our contract has been UNAVAILBABLE on the NWAAFA website for over three weeks now. KEVIN, WHERE IS OUR CONTRACT? WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO HIDE?
(From Delta Policy Manual)Delta FAs get paid the greater of:
1) flight pay, including deadhead pay, or
2) the 4:45 duty period average (DPA) by rotation, or
3) 1 for 3.5 trip credit (TRP)
4) 1 for 2 duty period credit may also apply to an individual duty period
