Where is the largest flight attendant in the world (AFA)?

Non-union Delta flight attendants continue to win improvements in pay and work rules while the largest flight attendant union in the world (AFA) remains stymied by NWA management.

We all know that having a Strong union is better than no union. And we all know that having a strong union is better than a weak union. The question that remains is whether having a weak union is better than having no union.

Delta flight attendants recently received a memo from the company that they will receive international premium pay beginning July 1, 2007 and that they will be paid the greater of schedule or actual flight times. The Northwest flight attendants are excluded from any international premium pay until January, 2009. Meanwhile, Pat Friend requested the NWA MEC to correct the misleading hotline item on Delta pay, sent last Friday. More than 48 hours later, we are still waiting for the correction. What happened to the promised ‘state of the art communications’ AFA promised us? Why does AFA seem to issue almost as many corrections as original hotlines?

And what ever happened to the quality of life discussions that Kevin Griffin had with Doug Steenland? Where are his and AFA’s accountability to the members? What is the benefit to paying $39 a month (soon to be $43) to an organization that can’t even win us the improvements that non-union flight attendants achieve?
