It is about NWA flight attendants!

AFA Promise: In a letter to Northwest flight attendants, during AFA’s raid on the Northwest flight attendants, Pat Friend promised: “. . . we have the benefit of in-house state-of-the-art communications, research, government affairs, air safety, and employee assistance departments contributing their expertise to our efforts.”

AFA Promise Broken: It wasn’t so long ago, during the raid, that it seemed like we were getting daily mailings from AFA. Now it’s been almost a year without a newsletter from the MEC, and we have received no information about the strategy or plan in the event of a merger. No communications = a membership kept in the dark = a democratic void. AFA is telling us that, with this merger, we are facing one of the biggest challenges of our careers (wasn’t that the last contract negotiations?), yet they have failed to provide us the necessary strategy, leadership or communications, so that we can stayed informed and make sound, democratic decision. Now they are trying to distract us with the announcement of a new ‘IMPACT’ Committee, while failing to tell us that the same people who ran the failed CHAOS Committee and the failed Membership Mobilization Committee are now in charge of IMPACT. AFA leadership needs to understand the problem is not with what they name their committees.

To lead by example, a group of current and former flight attendants have created a website with some of the information which AFA has failed to provide you. We encourage you to get involved and stay informed. After all, this isn’t about Pat Friend and her broken promises. This isn’t about AFA and their campaign of fear and disillusionment. This isn’t even about the current NWA MEC leaders and their lack of strategy and communications. At the end of the day, this is about the group that the aforementioned seem to have forgotten: the Northwest flight attendants.
